Childhood Stories from the Lilac Kitchen

When a grandchild asks a grandparent to share a story from their childhood, the grandparent is simultaneously blessed and (gently) cursed. Suddenly, the grandparent's own youthful years flash through their mind, prompting the question, "How can I convey that to them?" Yet, nothing is more endearing than the opportunity to tell these stories with honesty, humor, and a gentle revelation about life. The child's mind opens, and the grandparent becomes more human, more real, and more loving than ever before.

When my grandson requested that I write down the "childhood" stories I had told him during our little excursions around town, so that his mother could read them to him in my absence, I eagerly sat down at the computer and began to write. These eight stories are the foundation for a series of children's short story books, and the illustrations are my own, though they possess a childlike quality, as my drawing skills plateaued around the age of nine or ten.
